Yara Sonseca Mas Madrid
Yara Sonseca Mas is an art historian and curator; she was born in Madrid and lives and works in Munich. Director of the exhibitions department at La Casa Encedida, Madrid, from 2006 till 2015, she curated several projects and commissioned artworks by emerging artists for the institution, where also edited publications on Antonin Artaud, John Cage, Louise Bourgeois, Arthur Rimbaud, Joseph Kosuth, Andy Warhol, among other artists.
As independent curator, Yara Sonseca Mas co-curated the exhibition Beckett films (2011: CAAC, Seville), focused on Samuel Beckett’s audio-visual works. She has curated several retrospective exhibitions, notably those dedicated to José Antonio Suárez Londoño and Amie Siegel (2015-2017: CAPC Bordeaux, MAMM Medellín, Villa Stuck München). Most recently she curated the research project, including an exhibition and a series of talks, Nicolás Combarro. Aufzeichnungen aus dem Untergrund (2021: Maximiliansforum, NS-Dokumentationszentrum, Pavillon des Architekturmuseums an der Pinakothek der Moderne München). And this year, presented the site-specific exhibition Julius Heinemann „Pueblo Potemkin (Condeduque, Madrid)“ (2022: Centro Cultural Condeduque, Madrid).
She had written and published catalogues for publishing houses such us Mousse Publishing and Koenig Books. The most recent dedicated to Julius Heinemann’s ouevre on paper (2022, Madrid: This Side Up/Jahn und Jahn).
